For the end-of-year festivities, Perrine the guide has teamed up with Somme Tourisme to offer a dramatised visit entitled ‘1914: A truce for Christmas’, at the Bray-sur-Somme national necropolis.
👉 Along with her friends, who became actors for a day, Perrine revisited the date of 25 December 1914, when, in the heart of the trenches, French and German soldiers left their weapons behind for a moment to share songs, glances and a little humanity. Through the stories told by Anton, a young man from Baden, and Exupère, a Norman from the 205th Infantry Regiment, visitors discovered a poignant story in which the absurdity of war was replaced by universal values such as fraternity and hope. Parallels were drawn with current conflicts, and testimonies from soldiers in Ukraine were broadcast.
✨ At the end of the visit, the 80 participants on hand were invited to place candles at the gravesides and then enjoy a Christmas snack (shortbread, cookies, gingerbread and hot chocolate), to stay in the festive spirit of the festive season.
🕊️ The visit cost €4 per person and the entire amount was donated to Somme Battlefields for Peace: thanks to the efforts of Perrine and her team, we raised €365!
